If you're paying for DashPass directly, there's a decent chance you don't have to. Chase, Mastercard, Amazon Prime, and Samsung all bundle DashPass as a perk on certain cards or memberships — usually free for the first year and discounted ($4.99/month) thereafter. This guide walks through which cards qualify, how to activate the benefit, what changes when the card-linked period ends, and the trade-offs vs paying for DashPass directly.

If you're trying to evaluate DashPass overall, see Is DashPass Worth It? first.

Specific terms and renewal dates change. Always confirm at checkout in DoorDash or via the partner's benefit page before assuming the offer applies. Cards may also be added or removed from the partner list over time.

Chase Sapphire Preferred & Reserve

The two flagship Chase travel cards include the most generous DashPass benefit of any partner card:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred — Complimentary DashPass membership + a $10/month DoorDash promo on grocery and non-restaurant orders. The DashPass portion is free for the duration of the card-linked benefit (currently extended through 12/31/2027).
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve — Complimentary DashPass + up to $25/month in DoorDash promos: a $5 monthly restaurant promo + two separate $10 monthly non-restaurant promos. Through 12/31/2027.

The DoorDash credit is separate from DashPass — it's a stored balance applied automatically to your next eligible order. If you don't use it in a given month, it generally doesn't roll over.

Activation: log into your Chase account → "Benefits" → "DoorDash & DashPass" → click "Activate" → DoorDash opens with your card pre-linked. Or activate through DoorDash directly (see "How to activate" below).

Chase Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Freedom Flex

The Chase Freedom family includes a more limited DashPass benefit:

  • 3 months of complimentary DashPass when activated through your card account.
  • After 3 months, DashPass continues at $4.99/month (vs the standard $9.99/month for non-partner subscribers).
  • The card must remain in good standing.

This works out to a meaningful annual saving vs paying full DashPass — about $60/year less, plus the 3 free months.

To activate: log into Chase → Benefits → DashPass → Activate.

Other Chase cards

Most Chase Visa cards (Slate Edge, Ink Business, etc.) include the same 3-months-free-then-$4.99/month offer as the Freedom family. Some Chase business cards have card-specific terms — check your benefits page.

The activation window typically extends through 12/31 of the year specified on your benefit page. Once you activate, the discounted DashPass continues until you cancel — even after the activation window closes.

Mastercard World & World Elite (Rewards Mastercard)

Mastercard has its own DashPass partnership separate from Visa/Chase:

  • World Mastercard holders typically get 3 months of complimentary DashPass.
  • World Elite Mastercard (premium tier) typically gets 12 months of complimentary DashPass.
  • After the free period, DashPass continues at $4.99/month (the discounted partner rate).

Activation: visit dashpass.com/mastercard (the partner activation portal) → enter your Mastercard number → DoorDash links the benefit to your account. Or use the in-app activation flow when you sign up for DashPass and the partner benefit is auto-detected.

If you have multiple Mastercards, only one can be linked at a time.

Amazon Prime → DashPass

This is a common point of confusion: Amazon Prime no longer bundles DashPass. Prior to 2026, certain Prime members had access to a free DashPass trial via the Prime Gaming or Prime Video promotions, but the partnership ended. Amazon Prime members today typically get Grubhub+ as a free included benefit instead, not DashPass.

If you're paying for both Prime and DashPass, evaluate whether Grubhub+ (free with Prime) covers your needs vs paying separately for DashPass.

Samsung Galaxy phones

Samsung Galaxy device buyers have, in past promotions, received 6 months of complimentary DashPass as a launch perk for new flagship phones (S-series, Z Fold/Flip series). Activation usually goes through the Samsung Wallet or a launch-window promo email.

This is a one-time benefit per device — once it ends, you'd need to subscribe directly or activate via another partner card.

Don't see your card listed? Open DoorDash → Account → DashPass → Try to subscribe. If your card has a partner benefit, DoorDash automatically detects it at checkout and applies the discount.

How to activate your card-linked DashPass

Two paths — through the partner (Chase, Mastercard, etc.) or through DoorDash itself.

Path A: Through the partner (recommended for first-time activation)

  1. Log into your card issuer's site (chase.com, mastercard.com benefits portal, etc.).
  2. Find the DashPass / DoorDash benefit page.
  3. Click "Activate" or "Enroll."
  4. The partner site redirects you to DoorDash, pre-filling card info.
  5. Follow DoorDash's flow to confirm your account.
  6. Membership starts immediately.

Path B: Through DoorDash

  1. Open DoorDash app or doordash.com.
  2. Tap Account → DashPass.
  3. Tap Subscribe (or "Get DashPass").
  4. At checkout, add the card with the partner benefit as your payment method.
  5. DoorDash detects the partner status and applies the benefit pricing.
  6. Confirm.

Path A is more reliable for cards where the benefit has explicit activation tracking. Path B sometimes misses partner detection if the card is registered to a different name.

What happens when the partner benefit ends

The behavior at end-of-promotion depends on the card type:

  • Sapphire Preferred / Reserve — DashPass continues at the same complimentary rate as long as your card is active and the partnership is renewed (currently extended through 2027).
  • Chase Freedom / Slate / most Visa — After the 3-month free period, you're billed $4.99/month at your default payment method. Cancel any time.
  • World Elite Mastercard — After 12 months, you're billed $4.99/month.
  • Samsung 6-month — At end of period, DoorDash prompts you to continue at the standard $9.99/month or cancel.

DoorDash typically sends an email 7-14 days before the partner benefit ends. Check your DashPass status in Account → DashPass to confirm what rate applies and when the next renewal hits.

Stacking, gifting, and other edge cases

Can I have two card-linked DashPass at once? No. DoorDash links one card at a time. If you activate a second partner card, the new one replaces the old.

What if I cancel the card? Your DashPass benefit ends when the card is closed. You can re-link a different card.

Can I gift DashPass while I'm on a partner-bundled subscription? Yes — gifting DashPass to someone else is a separate purchase from your subscription. See How to Gift DoorDash DashPass.

What if the partner benefit expires but I want to keep DashPass at the partner rate? You can't extend the partner benefit beyond what the card terms specify. If the terms convert to $4.99/month, that rate continues until you cancel. Check your renewal notice carefully.

Can I switch from a card-linked subscription to DashPass Student? Yes — if you're a verified student. Student plan is cheaper ($4.99/month) but may overlap with the partner $4.99/month rate. Pick whichever has better long-term certainty (Student plan tied to graduation, partner benefit tied to card renewal). See DashPass Student Plan.

Why does DoorDash still charge me $9.99? If your card-linked benefit ended, DoorDash auto-converts to the standard $9.99/month rate. To stay at the discounted partner rate, you may need to re-activate via the partner's portal — sometimes the auto-renewal doesn't preserve the partner discount. See Why is DoorDash charging me $9.99?.

FAQ

Does DashPass via Chase or Mastercard cover convenience and grocery orders?

Yes. The DashPass benefits ($0 delivery fee on eligible orders, reduced service fees, exclusive deals) apply identically whether you're on a partner-linked subscription or a standalone subscription. The retailer must be a DashPass-eligible partner.

Will my Sapphire Preferred DashPass benefit auto-renew on the next card year?

The DashPass benefit is tied to the card's enrollment, not to your card year. Per Chase's published cobrand-DoorDash terms, eligible Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders must activate the complimentary DashPass benefit by 12/31/2027 to receive at least 12 months of complimentary DashPass; the benefit terms after activation are governed by Chase's Sapphire DoorDash terms page (chase.com/digital/resources/terms-of-use/sapphire-doordash). Whether Chase extends or modifies the program past that date is up to Chase — confirm current terms on Chase's benefits page before relying on a future renewal.

Can I activate via Mastercard if I have a Visa Chase Freedom?

Each card runs through its own program. You can only activate one card-linked benefit at a time. If you switch from Mastercard to Chase, the Mastercard benefit ends.

Does the monthly DoorDash credit (Sapphire) work on grocery orders?

Yes, the credit applies to any DoorDash order — restaurants, grocery, convenience, pharmacy. You can stack the credit with DashPass-discounted delivery on the same order.

What happens if my Chase card account is closed mid-subscription?

DashPass billing fails on the closed card. DoorDash prompts you to add a new payment method. The partner benefit is severed and won't transfer to a different card automatically.

Can I get DashPass free as a Chase Bank checking-account customer (not a credit card)?

No — the DashPass partnership is tied to specific credit cards, not to Chase deposit accounts. Some Chase Private Client tiers historically had additional perks; verify on your benefits page.

Is DashPass via Costco or Sam's Club credit cards?

No standing DashPass partnership exists for warehouse-club cards as of this writing. If a partnership launches, DoorDash typically advertises it directly.

Will my partner benefit pause if I pause DashPass?

Pause typically works the same way — your benefit pauses, and resumes when DashPass resumes. Some partner bundles override this. See How to Pause DoorDash DashPass.

Does the Sapphire Preferred $10 grocery-promo credit roll over?

Monthly DoorDash credits associated with Chase consumer cards (including the Sapphire Preferred grocery/non-restaurant credit) are typically use-it-or-lose-it for the calendar month under Chase's published terms. The exact rollover/expiration behavior for your specific credit is documented on Chase's DoorDash terms page (chase.com/digital/resources/terms-of-use/sapphire-doordash) — check there for the version that applies to your card.
