DoorDash app errors — "something went wrong," "error processing payment," "can't access location" — happen for a handful of common reasons, and the fixes are mostly fast. This guide is a definitive troubleshooting reference: identify your error message, jump to the section, fix it, place your order. Covers customer-side issues (not Dasher driver app issues — for those, see our Dasher app troubleshooting guide).
If nothing here fixes the issue, it's almost certainly a platform-wide outage on DoorDash's side — see the bottom of this guide.

"Something went wrong" — generic error
This is DoorDash's catch-all. The fix is sequential — try each in order:
- Force-quit and reopen the app. iOS: swipe up from bottom and swipe DoorDash up. Android: recent apps button → swipe DoorDash away.
- Toggle airplane mode — turn it on for 5 seconds, then off. Forces a fresh network connection.
- Sign out, sign back in. Account → Sign Out → log in again.
- Update the app via App Store / Play Store. Old versions sometimes stop working.
- Restart your phone. Old standby — fixes a surprising number of issues.
- Clear app cache (Android only) — Settings → Apps → DoorDash → Storage → Clear Cache.
- Reinstall the app. Last resort. Your account data isn't lost; it lives on the server.
If still broken after all of the above: it's a server-side issue. Wait 15-30 minutes and try again, or use the website (doordash.com).
Payment processing errors
"Payment Processing Error" or "Error Processing Payment" usually means your card was declined. Causes:
- Card expired — check the date on your card. Update in Account → Payment.
- Insufficient funds — for debit cards. Try another payment method or wait for next paycheck.
- Bank fraud flag — your bank flagged DoorDash as suspicious (especially if first-time order). Call the number on the back of your card and tell them to allow DoorDash transactions.
- CVV mismatch — re-enter card details carefully, especially the 3-digit CVV on the back.
- Address mismatch — DoorDash verifies billing address. Update Account → Billing Address to match your card.
- Card type not supported — some prepaid cards or international cards don't work. Use a standard Visa/Mastercard/Amex.
Try a different payment method to isolate. If your default card fails, try PayPal, Venmo, or Apple/Google Pay.
"Error validating basket"
This error appears at checkout when DoorDash detects a price/inventory mismatch between when you added items and when you tried to pay:
- Restaurant updated prices mid-order.
- An item went out of stock between adding and checkout.
- A promo code was applied that's no longer valid.
- You tried to use a payment method incompatible with the cart contents.
Fix: 1. Tap "Refresh Cart" if visible. 2. Or remove and re-add the affected items. 3. If still failing, start over — delete cart, re-add items, checkout immediately.
If the issue persists for a specific restaurant, the restaurant's data feed to DoorDash may be broken — try a different restaurant to confirm.
"Error accessing Google Pay"
Specific to Google Pay users:
- Open Google Pay app and verify your card is active there.
- Update Google Pay to the latest version.
- Sign out of Google Pay, sign back in.
- In DoorDash: remove Google Pay as a payment method, re-add it.
- Try a regular card payment to isolate whether the issue is Google Pay or DoorDash.
If the error persists across multiple Google Pay cards, it's a Google Pay/DoorDash integration issue — usually resolves within 24 hours after Google Pay or DoorDash deploys a fix.
"This transaction cannot be processed"
This is bank-side, not DoorDash-side:
- Call your bank — ask them to allow DoorDash transactions for the next 24 hours.
- Try a different card.
- If you recently moved or got a new phone, banks sometimes flag transactions from new IP addresses — your bank should resolve it after verification.
- Some banks block transactions outside your home country; if you're traveling, that's the cause.
App crashes / freezes
If the app crashes immediately on opening or freezes mid-flow:
- Force-quit and reopen.
- Update DoorDash app to latest version.
- Update your phone's OS — sometimes DoorDash requires a recent iOS/Android version.
- Restart your phone.
- Reinstall the app: delete it, redownload from App Store / Play Store, sign back in.
- Free up storage — phones with <2 GB free often have apps crash. Delete unused apps, clear photos.
- Disable any battery-saver mode that may be killing background apps aggressively.
If the app crashes specifically during checkout, the issue is usually corrupted cart data. After reinstalling, your cart is reset (which actually fixes the underlying problem).
Location not detected / wrong location
Issues like "no restaurants found" or restaurants from the wrong city:
- Check location permissions — Settings → Privacy → Location Services → DoorDash → "While Using" or "Always."
- Toggle airplane mode for 10 seconds.
- Manually enter your address in the search bar at top of DoorDash home.
- Ensure GPS is enabled and you have line-of-sight (not in a basement, etc.).
- Reset Location & Privacy (iOS): Settings → General → Reset → Reset Location & Privacy. Re-grant DoorDash permission.
- Move outdoors briefly for a clean GPS lock, then come inside.
- Try doordash.com on browser — uses IP-based geolocation and sometimes works when GPS doesn't.
"Leave at door" not working
Common reasons "Leave at Door" defaults change or don't apply:
- Alcohol orders — leave-at-door is blocked by federal/state law for alcohol. ID is required at door.
- High-value orders — DoorDash sometimes requires hand-off for orders >$100 to reduce theft.
- Recipient didn't update preference — go to Address details and re-confirm "Leave at Door" as default.
- Specific Dasher choice — Dashers can override based on building access (apartment lobbies often require buzz-up).
- Building policy — some buildings have packages-to-front-desk-only rules that override leave-at-door.
Check your delivery instructions field; sometimes the default reverts after app updates.
DashPass-related errors
"DashPass not active" / "Subscription expired" / billing issues:
- Check Account → DashPass — confirm subscription status.
- Verify payment method — expired card causes auto-renewal failure.
- Re-activate if it shows "Reactivate" button.
- If you're on a partner-card-linked subscription (Chase, Mastercard), see DashPass via Chase, Mastercard & Partner Cards — partner benefit may have ended.
- If Student plan, your verification may have expired — see DashPass Student Plan Guide.
If DashPass shows active but benefits aren't applying at checkout, it's usually a cache issue — sign out and sign back in.
EBT not working at checkout
If your EBT card isn't appearing as a payment option:
- Cart must include SNAP-eligible items from a participating retailer.
- State must be supported — DoorDash's SNAP coverage varies.
- Card must be valid and active — check via the EBT app or phone customer service.
- Account verification — DoorDash's SNAP eligibility may need re-verification.

Is DoorDash down right now?
Sometimes the issue isn't on your end:
- Check downdetector.com/status/doordash — community-reported outage tracker.
- Check Twitter/X — search "DoorDash down" for real-time reports.
- Check DoorDash's status page if available (status.doordash.com).
- Check @DoorDash_Help on Twitter — they post outage announcements.
If many people are reporting issues, it's a DoorDash platform outage. There's nothing to fix locally — wait 15-30 minutes. Most outages resolve quickly.
If the outage persists for hours, DoorDash typically posts an update on their Twitter account.

FAQ
Why does DoorDash say my address isn't covered?
DoorDash's coverage varies by neighborhood, time of day, and current Dasher availability. If usually-covered areas show "no Dashers nearby," it's typically a temporary supply issue — try again in 30 minutes.
Why is the app slow to load?
Network congestion or server-side load. Try connecting to WiFi if you're on cellular, or vice versa.
Why don't I see any restaurants?
Either (a) you're in a non-supported area, (b) location isn't detected, or (c) you set a filter that excludes everything. Try clearing all filters at the top of the home screen.
Why does "Schedule a Dash" not work?
Scheduling is for Dashers (drivers), not customers. As a customer, you "Schedule" an order delivery time at checkout — that's different from "Schedule a Dash."
Why does my promo code say "invalid"?
Either (a) it expired, (b) it's first-order-only and you've already ordered, (c) the promo doesn't apply to your cart contents, or (d) you typed it wrong. See DoorDash Promo Codes for First Orders & Beyond.
Why is my Dasher not moving?
The Dasher may be picking up another order before yours (stacked), waiting for the restaurant to finish prep, or paused at a stop. If the icon hasn't moved in 15+ minutes, contact via in-app chat.
Why does the app keep asking me to sign in?
Either (a) DoorDash logged you out for security (especially after fraud flags), (b) the app's session token is corrupted (reinstall fixes it), or (c) you're using an old version that no longer authenticates correctly.
Why do I see "DoorDash" charges I don't recognize on my card?
It might be a DashPass auto-renewal you forgot about ($9.99/month, see Why is DoorDash charging me $9.99?). Or it could be a fraudulent charge — check your DoorDash order history. If unfamiliar, see DoorDash Account Locked or Hacked.
Why does the app freeze when I add a tip?
Old app version. Update via App Store / Play Store.
What if I've tried everything and it's still broken?
Contact DoorDash support: in-app Help → Account → Contact Us, or email support@doordash.com. Provide screenshots of the error.
