Quick answer: the Dasher app’s most common issues are (1) login failures — usually fixed by password reset or clearing app cache, (2) app keeps pausing your dash — usually a battery-saver / background-app permission issue, (3) app crashing or stuck loading — usually fixed by force-quit + reinstall, (4) GPS errors — usually a location-permission or “high accuracy” setting issue, and (5) CarPlay or Android Auto not working — usually a permission-grant step that wasn’t completed. This guide walks each through with the exact fix sequence.
Where to log in:
- Web: dasher.doordash.com (laptop or desktop browser).
- Mobile: the Dasher app (iOS App Store or Google Play). The customer DoorDash app is a different app — Dashers need the orange Dasher app.
If you’re not yet a Dasher and you’re trying to sign up, start at northvilletech.co/dasher. Subject to background check and availability.

Login problems
”I forgot my password”
- Open the Dasher app or go to dasher.doordash.com.
- Tap Sign In, then Forgot password?
- Enter the email address tied to your Dasher account (this is the email DoorDash sends earnings statements to).
- Check your inbox (and spam folder) for a password-reset email. Tap the link within 1 hour.
- Set a new password — at least 8 characters, mix of letters and numbers.
If the reset email never arrives, your account may be tied to a different email than you remember. Common causes: the email you signed up with is an old one you no longer check, or the Dasher account was created via Apple/Google sign-in (not email). In that case, try signing in with your Apple or Google account directly.
”Wrong password” but I’m sure it’s right
- Check Caps Lock on desktop.
- Try the reset flow anyway — sometimes auto-fill saves an outdated password.
- Check for two-factor authentication — DoorDash may have sent a code to your phone. Check your text messages.
- If your account was previously deactivated, you cannot log back in. Contact Dasher Support.
”Account locked for review”
This is usually a security flag, not a deactivation. The account is paused while DoorDash investigates a suspicious login or a flagged delivery. Contact Dasher Support through the help center — they can unlock it. Don’t repeatedly try to log in; that can extend the lock.
”I can’t access the email tied to my account”
This is the hardest case. You’ll need to contact Dasher Support and verify your identity (driver’s license, last 4 SSN, etc.) so they can update your account email. Plan for a few days to resolve.
Dasher app keeps pausing your dash
The “Dash Paused” message appears when the app loses one of three things: GPS signal, network connection, or background-execution permission. Most often it’s the third one.
iPhone fix
- Settings → Dasher → Background App Refresh → ON
- Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Dasher → “Always” (not “While Using”)
- Settings → Cellular → Dasher → ON (allow cellular data)
- Settings → Notifications → Dasher → Allow Notifications ON
- Low Power Mode OFF while dashing — Low Power Mode aggressively kills background tasks. Keep your phone plugged in instead.
- Focus / Do Not Disturb OFF — those modes can suppress the wake events Dasher uses.
Android fix
- Settings → Apps → Dasher → Battery → Unrestricted (this is the single biggest fix on Android)
- Settings → Apps → Dasher → Permissions → Location → Allow all the time
- Settings → Apps → Dasher → Mobile data → Background data ON
- Disable Adaptive Battery for Dasher specifically (Settings → Battery → Adaptive Battery)
- Disable Battery Saver while dashing
- On Samsung phones: also turn off Put unused apps to sleep for Dasher (Settings → Battery → Background usage limits)
After setting the permissions, force-quit the Dasher app and reopen — the new permissions take effect on next launch.
App crashes, won’t open, or stuck loading
The standard fix sequence for any “Dasher app is broken” issue:
- Force-quit the app. iPhone: swipe up + flick away. Android: Settings → Apps → Dasher → Force Stop.
- Reopen the app. 80% of issues resolve here.
- If still broken: Restart the phone. Full power cycle, not just lock screen.
- If still broken: Check for app updates. App Store → Updates → Dasher. Or Google Play → Manage apps → Updates.
- If still broken: Uninstall and reinstall. This clears any corrupted local cache. You won’t lose your account — just sign back in.
- If still broken after reinstall: Check DoorDash status. downdetector.com/status/doordash or social media. The app is sometimes down platform-wide.
- If DoorDash isn’t down platform-wide and your reinstall didn’t help: Contact Dasher Support.
”The Dasher app is stuck on the loading screen”
Almost always a corrupted cache. Force-quit + reinstall fixes it 95% of the time.
”The app crashes when I try to start a dash”
Usually a GPS or location-permission issue. Check that location services are ON for Dasher specifically (see permissions above). On iPhone, also check Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → System Services → Significant Locations is ON.
”I keep getting ‘something went wrong’”
Generic error, usually a backend or network blip. Wait 5 minutes and retry. If persistent, contact Dasher Support.
GPS and navigation problems
”GPS shows me in the wrong location”
- Restart your phone. The GPS chip can get stuck — a reboot resets it.
- Recalibrate Google Maps compass. Open Google Maps → tap the blue dot → “Calibrate compass” → wave the phone in a figure-8 a few times.
- Toggle Location Services off and on (Settings → Privacy → Location Services).
- Disable mock-location apps. If you have any GPS-spoofing apps installed, the Dasher app can detect this and either deactivate you or refuse to give you GPS-based features.
”Maps doesn’t open when I get an order”
The app uses your default maps app. To change:
- iPhone: the default is Apple Maps. To use Google Maps, install Google Maps. The Dasher app may default to Google Maps if both are installed and “Always use Google Maps” is set in Dasher’s settings.
- Android: check Settings → Apps → Default apps → Maps.
If neither maps app opens, the issue is a missing URL handler. Reinstalling Google Maps or Apple Maps usually fixes it.
”GPS keeps dropping when I’m dashing”
Usually a battery-saver issue (see permissions section). On Android specifically, Adaptive Battery is the most common culprit — it puts apps to sleep and breaks GPS continuity.
CarPlay and Android Auto
The Dasher app supports CarPlay (iOS) and Android Auto as of 2024. If yours isn’t working:
Setting up CarPlay
- Plug in your phone via USB (or use wireless CarPlay if your car supports it).
- Open the Dasher app on your phone first, then start the car.
- CarPlay should show the Dasher icon — if not, Settings → General → CarPlay → [your car] → Customize → add Dasher to the list.
If Dasher doesn’t appear in the CarPlay app list, your iOS or Dasher app is out of date. Update both.
Setting up Android Auto
- Make sure your phone is on Android 9.0 or later.
- Open the Android Auto app on your phone first.
- Plug in via USB (or use wireless Android Auto if supported).
- Android Auto settings → Customize launcher → toggle Dasher ON.
”CarPlay shows the icon but the app is blank”
Usually fixed by force-quitting Dasher on the phone and reconnecting CarPlay. Some car infotainment systems also need a power cycle (turn the car off completely, lock, walk away for 30 seconds, return).
Notification issues
”I’m not getting order notifications”
- iPhone: Settings → Notifications → Dasher → Allow Notifications ON, Sounds ON, Banners ON, Lock Screen ON.
- Android: Settings → Apps → Dasher → Notifications → toggle all on.
- Disable Focus / Do Not Disturb / Bedtime Mode while dashing.
- Volume up. Sounds obvious but the silent-mode switch is easy to bump.
”Notifications come, but with no sound”
- iPhone: Settings → Notifications → Dasher → Sound → make sure it’s not set to “None”
- Android: Settings → Apps → Dasher → Notifications → confirm channel sound is set
”I’m getting too many notifications about things I don’t care about”
In the Dasher app: Account → Notification preferences. Toggle off non-essential categories.
Data, sync, and account issues
”My earnings aren’t showing up”
- DoorDash typically updates earnings within an hour of a delivery completing, but can take longer during high-volume periods.
- If 24 hours have passed and earnings are still missing, contact Dasher Support with the order details (date, restaurant, drop-off).
”I can’t switch dash zones / my zone is full”
- Zones fill up during peak hours. Wait for an opening or dash in an adjacent zone.
- Schedule Ahead (in the Dasher app) lets you reserve a spot in a busy zone for later. Schedule 1–7 days ahead.
- Dash Anywhere mode (where available) lets you dash without a fixed zone but with reduced order priority. Subject to availability.
”I can’t update my driver’s license / vehicle”
Account → Vehicles → Edit Vehicle. If the upload fails, try the Dasher web portal at dasher.doordash.com — the upload flow is sometimes more reliable on desktop.
”My phone number changed and I can’t log in with the new one”
Account → Account info → update phone. If you can’t log in to update it, contact Dasher Support.
When to contact DoorDash support
Try the troubleshooting sequence above first. If you still need help, see our How to Contact Dasher Support guide for every contact path (chat, phone, email, in-app), with notes on which path is fastest for which issue.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between the Dasher app and the DoorDash app?
The Dasher app is for drivers. The DoorDash app is for customers ordering food. They have different icons (Dasher is orange) and are listed separately on the App Store / Google Play. If you accidentally installed the customer app, uninstall and reinstall the right one.
How do I sign up for the Dasher app if I’m not a Dasher yet?
Go to northvilletech.co/dasher, enter your zip code, and complete the sign-up. Once approved, you’ll download the Dasher app and log in with the credentials you created. Subject to background check and availability.
What’s the minimum phone version for Dasher?
- iPhone: iOS 15 or later (iPhone 6s and newer)
- Android: Android 9.0 or later, with Google Play services installed
If your phone is older than these, the Dasher app won’t install or run reliably.
Why does my Dasher app drain the battery?
GPS-intensive use during dashing is the main reason. Tips: keep the phone plugged in while dashing (12V car charger or wireless car mount), turn off non-essential apps, lower screen brightness while in the car mount, and use a fuel-efficient route plan.
Can I use the Dasher app on a tablet?
Officially, no — the Dasher app is phone-only. Some Dashers report sideloading on Android tablets, but this isn’t supported and may cause unexpected behavior.
Can I dash without the app, just on the website?
No — the actual dashing (accepting orders, navigating, completing deliveries) happens in the mobile app. The web portal at dasher.doordash.com is for account management, earnings history, tax documents, and similar back-office tasks.
How do I update my driver’s license in the app?
Account → Vehicles & License → Update. Take fresh photos of the front and back. The upload usually approves within 24 hours.
Why did my dash get auto-paused mid-delivery?
Almost always a permissions issue (battery saver, background app refresh, location accuracy). See the “Dasher app keeps pausing” section above.
Can I dash on multiple phones?
You can install the Dasher app on multiple phones with the same account, but you can only be actively dashing on one at a time.
My iPhone is in Lockdown Mode — does Dasher work?
Lockdown Mode disables some networking and JIT features that the Dasher app relies on. Most Dashers turn off Lockdown Mode while dashing.
How do I turn off the Dasher’s nightly auto-update?
You can’t from the app. To prevent auto-updates: iPhone → Settings → App Store → App Updates OFF. Android → Play Store → Settings → Network preferences → Auto-update apps OFF (or “over Wi-Fi only”).
Ready to dash?
If you’re not a Dasher yet, start at northvilletech.co/dasher. The application takes 10–15 minutes and most applicants are on their first delivery within a week. Subject to background check and availability.
