Quick answer: Robinhood follows your phone or browser’s system theme by default — set your device to dark mode and the app follows. To override the system setting, open the Robinhood app and go to Account → Settings → Appearance to choose Light, Dark, or System.

How to enable dark mode on iPhone (iOS)

Robinhood’s iOS app follows your iOS system theme by default, but it also has a manual override.

Method 1 — match iOS system theme:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone
  2. Tap Display & Brightness
  3. Tap Dark (or Automatic to switch by time of day)
  4. Open Robinhood — it should now be in dark mode

Method 2 — override inside the Robinhood app:

  1. Open the Robinhood app
  2. Tap your Account icon (bottom right)
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Appearance
  5. Choose Light, Dark, or System (System follows iOS)

If you don’t see the Appearance option, your app version may be out of date — update from the App Store and try again.

How to enable dark mode on Android

The Robinhood Android app respects your Android system theme and supports an in-app override.

Method 1 — match Android system theme:

  1. Open Settings on your Android device
  2. Tap Display (location varies by manufacturer)
  3. Tap Dark theme and toggle it on (or set to Auto)
  4. Open Robinhood — it should now be in dark mode

Method 2 — override inside the Robinhood app:

  1. Open the Robinhood app
  2. Tap your Account icon (bottom right)
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Appearance
  5. Choose Light, Dark, or System

If the Appearance option is missing, update the app from Google Play.

How to enable dark mode on Robinhood Web (desktop)

The Robinhood web client (robinhood.com) also supports dark mode.

  1. Sign in to robinhood.com
  2. Click your Account menu (top right)
  3. Click Settings
  4. Click Appearance
  5. Choose Light, Dark, or System (System follows your browser/OS theme)

The web setting is independent of the mobile app setting — you can have one in dark mode and the other in light mode if you want.

What if dark mode doesn’t show up?

A few common reasons the toggle doesn’t appear or doesn’t work:

1. Your app is outdated. Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and update Robinhood to the latest version. Dark mode and the Appearance setting have been available for several years, but very old app versions don’t have the toggle.

2. iOS Smart Invert is on instead of native dark mode. Smart Invert (Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Smart Invert) inverts colors but isn’t the same as native dark mode. If Robinhood looks weird (charts inverted, logos negative), turn off Smart Invert and use iOS Dark Mode instead.

3. Your OS is in light mode and the app is set to System. If Appearance is set to System and your device is in light mode, the app will be light. Either switch your device to dark mode or set the app’s Appearance to Dark explicitly.

4. You’re using an older browser for the web client. Make sure you’re using a current version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge. Old browsers may not render the toggle correctly.

Troubleshooting common issues

Charts look weird in dark mode. This usually means Smart Invert (iOS) is on. Turn it off and use Dark Mode instead.

Some screens are still white. This can happen briefly after switching themes. Force-close the Robinhood app and reopen — it should pick up the new theme on the next launch.

The toggle keeps reverting. Make sure you tapped through to confirm the change. Some users tap Appearance, see the options, but back out without selecting — the change doesn’t save.

Dark mode works on phone but not web (or vice versa). Mobile and web settings are independent. Set them separately if you want both in dark mode.

My OS is dark but Robinhood is still light. Your in-app Appearance is probably set to Light explicitly. Set it to System or Dark to match.

Frequently asked questions

Does Robinhood have a native dark mode? Yes. The Robinhood iOS, Android, and web apps all support a true native dark mode (not just Smart Invert).

Is dark mode available on all Robinhood platforms? Yes — iOS, Android, and the web client all support it independently.

Can I schedule dark mode based on time of day? Set your phone or browser to Auto dark mode (iOS Display & Brightness → Automatic, Android Dark theme → Auto), and set Robinhood’s Appearance to System. The app will follow.

Why don’t I see the Appearance toggle? Update the Robinhood app to the latest version. The setting has been part of the app for several years, but very old installations may need an update.

Is dark mode better for OLED battery life? On OLED displays (most modern iPhones and high-end Android phones), dark mode pixels are physically off, which uses less battery. On LCD displays, dark mode doesn’t save battery in the same way.

Will dark mode change chart colors? Yes — chart backgrounds invert, but the up/down candle and gain/loss colors remain green/red for clarity.

Does AMOLED true-black work in Robinhood? Robinhood’s dark mode uses a deep dark gray, not pure AMOLED black. There isn’t a separate “true black” toggle as of 2026.

Our take

Robinhood’s dark mode is well-implemented across all three platforms — easier on the eyes for nighttime trading, friendlier on OLED displays, and cleanly separated between mobile and web settings if you want them different.

The most common issue isn’t the toggle itself; it’s iOS users mistaking Smart Invert for dark mode. If your Robinhood looks “off” in dark mode, check Smart Invert first.
