If you're traveling or want a break from DashPass without losing your membership, DoorDash's pause flow on the website is an eight-step workflow. Watch the walkthrough below, or follow the step-by-step underneath.
Pause DashPass (web)
- Go to doordash.com and click Sign In at the upper right.
- Choose a sign-in method (email, Google, Facebook, or Apple).
- Enter your email and click Continue to Sign In.
- Enter the verification code sent to your phone or email.
- From the bottom of the left-side menu, click the Account tab.
- Click Manage DashPass.
- Scroll down a little and click Pause or Cancel Membership.
- On the confirmation screen (Pause / Stay with DashPass / Continue to Cancel), click Pause DashPass.
Your membership is now paused. Future renewals don't process during the pause period.
When to pause vs cancel
Pause if: - You're traveling for a few weeks/months and won't use it - You're seasonally light on orders - You're testing whether you actually need DashPass - You want to keep your membership history intact
Cancel if: - You're permanently moving away from DoorDash - You're switching to Uber One or another competing service - You don't anticipate restarting
What happens during a pause
| What | Effect |
|---|---|
| DashPass benefits | Stop during the pause period |
| Free / reduced delivery fees | Don't apply during pause |
| Future renewals | Don't process during pause |
| Existing orders | Unaffected — already-placed orders complete normally |
| Saved payment | Stays on file; not charged during pause |
| Account itself | Stays active |
| Past order history | Preserved |
| Re-activation | Available any time from the same Manage DashPass screen |
Pause duration
DoorDash's pause duration policy can vary. Check the pause confirmation screen for the exact terms offered to you, since DoorDash adjusts these promotionally.
Resuming DashPass after a pause
To resume:
- Same path: doordash.com → Account → Manage DashPass.
- Click Resume DashPass.
- Confirm — billing resumes on your next renewal date.
Common pause errors and fixes
"Pause option not visible" — you may have an Apple-billed or Google-billed DashPass — those don't expose pause through DoorDash. Cancel via Apple Settings or Google Play instead.
"Already paused — can't pause again" — pause is single-period. Resume first, then re-pause if needed.
"Charged during pause" — either the pause didn't process, or you have a separate Apple/Google-billed DashPass running in parallel. Check email confirmations.
Pause vs cancel — practical comparison
| Pause | Cancel | |
|---|---|---|
| Membership history | Preserved | Ended |
| Re-activation | One click | Re-subscribe + new billing cycle |
| Account access | Maintained | Maintained |
| Benefits during paused period | None | None |
| Auto-resume | Yes (after pause period) | No |
| Refund of unused time | None | None |
Alternatives to pausing
Uber Eats → — Uber One is the equivalent. If you'd switch to Uber Eats anyway, try Uber One.
Shipt → — grocery-focused. Different value proposition.
If you're staying on DoorDash but easing off temporarily, pause via DashPass is the cleanest option.
FAQ
How long can I pause DashPass?
Varies by DoorDash promotion. Check the pause confirmation screen for current terms.
Can I unpause early?
Yes — go to Manage DashPass and click Resume.
Will I be charged during a pause?
No.
What happens to existing orders during a pause?
They complete normally with their original DashPass-pricing.
Can I pause an Apple-billed or Google-billed DashPass?
DoorDash's pause flow is exposed inside the DoorDash app for in-app DashPass billing. If your DashPass is billed through Apple's App Store or Google Play (because you originally subscribed there), DoorDash directs you to manage that subscription through Apple Settings or Google Play, where the available controls are cancel and resubscribe rather than DoorDash's in-app pause. If you don't see a Pause option in the DoorDash app, your subscription is likely billed externally — confirm in the Apple Settings or Google Play subscription pages.
Does pause affect my DashPass eligibility for promotions?
DoorDash's published pause flow keeps your account history and member status intact during the pause period; pausing is not a cancellation. Specific promotional eligibility (e.g., "win-back" offers for lapsed members) depends on the individual promo's terms — DoorDash doesn't publish a blanket rule. If a future promo's terms are unclear, contact DoorDash Support before relying on it.
